The Avalanche
On 15th February 2014, Matthew and Alison were caught in an avalanche on Snowdon which carried them 1,000 feet down the mountain. Luckily Alison was not seriously hurt, however Matthew was buried in the avalanche debris. Experienced mountain guide Michael Byrne (Frenchy) was first on the scene, and with friends John Price and John Heaps, found Matthew and dug him out. Mountain Rescue were alerted and members from two teams, Aberglaslyn and Llanberis, attended the scene. After being stretchered a considerable distance down the mountain, Matthew was flown with Alison to Ysbyty Gwynedd by 22 Squadron of the Royal Air Force.
